Pupil Premium and Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch Up

Pupil Premium funding is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England. It is designed to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities perform better, and close the gap between them and their peers. Pupil Premium funding is allocated according to the number of students currently registered as eligible for free school meals, and those registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years. In addition to this, schools receive additional funding to support students who are classed as ‘looked after’ (including those who are adopted, under a special guardianship order or a child arrangements order). Finally, schools also receive additional funding to support ‘service children’, whose parents are active members of the Armed Forces.

At Erasmus Darwin Academy, Pupil Premium funding is used in a range of different ways to promote progress and ensure that each student reaches their full potential. This support focuses on improving the academic progress of disadvantaged students but also on their wider personal development and helping them access extra-curricular opportunities and experiences they may not otherwise be able to.
